Ray Lema

From a very young age Ray Lema loved to mix things up. The son of a very Protestant family, he entered the catholic seminar aged 11, intending to become a priest. There a Belgian monk led him to discover music. The little boy showed talent and became a skilled pianist. After Bach and Mozart, Ray began listening to Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles, and to the traditional music of his homeland Zaire. In 1979 he left for the US where he recorded his first album. That brought about a chain of encounters and collaborations: with Steward Copeland (drummer of Police), Frenchmen Jacques Higelin, Charléélie Couture and Alain Bashung, the German jazz player Joachim Küühn, and the Bulgarian vocal trio "Choeur Trékia" Always true to his habit of breaking barriers Ray Lema is both a classical composer ( "Le rêve de la gazelle", with the Swedish chamber orchestra) and techno convert (in collaboration with Martin Meissonnier).
